Master of Arts in Child and Family Education

1. Emphasises family and parenting practices with the development of children, the understanding of family dynamics in children’s outcomes, and the use of education and intervention programmes to strengthen parenting practices for the positive development of children.

2. Run by EdUHK’s Department of Early Childhood Education. The department has a prolific scholarly output and quality teams in both child education and family studies.

3. Offers a versatile approach with two study tracks, allowing both research and practice paths for students of different potentials, interests and professional goals.

4. The practice track provides field attachment opportunities for students to gain workplace experience and insight into child and family services in real-life organisational contexts.

Those who work or aspire to work with children and families, and are keen to develop a deeper understanding of their work.

Classes in the same or different semester(s) may be scheduled on weekday daytime/evenings, weekends and/or during long holidays at the Tai Po Campus / Tseung Kwan O Study Centre / North Point Study Centre / Kowloon Tong Satellite Study Centre and/or other locations as decided by the University.

The medium of instruction is English. The fieldwork attachment for the practice track will be conducted in Chinese or English.

• Recognised Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in education, psychology or related disciplines. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview and /or take a test.
• Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-English speaking system should normally fulfil one of the following minimum English proficiency requirements:

1. Overall score of IELTS 6.0 (academic version)#; or
2. TOEFL score of 80 (internet-based test)#; or
3. Band 6 in the College English Test (CET)# with a total score of 430; or
4. Grade C or above in GCSE / GCE OL English; or
5. Other equivalent qualifications.

^#The test should be taken in test centres and the result should be valid within two years. TOEFL Home Editions, TOEFL MyBest Score, IELTS Indicator, IELTS Online, IELTS One Skill Retake, Duolingo and National Postgraduate Entrance Examination (全國碩士 研究生招生考試) are NOT acceptable.

Tuition Fee: HK$175,440

The tuition fee is HK$7,310 per credit. Tuition fees paid are normally not refundable or transferable. Extension fees will be charged to students who have to extend their studies beyond the normative period of study (i.e. 1 year for full-time and 2 years for part-time).

• Master of Arts in Child and Family Education Entrance Scholarship
  A total of two scholarships of HK$30,000 will be offered to two Year 1 students each year.

• Master of Arts in Child and Family Education Academic Scholarship
  A total of two scholarships of HK$30,000 will be offered to two MA(CFE) students each year, one for a full-time student and one for a part-time student.

• Master of Arts in Child and Family Education International Exchange Award
  A maximum of five awards will be offered to MA(CFE) students in 2025/26. The total amount of the awards to be offered in 2025/26 is capped at HK$30,000.

• The Scholarship for Teachers (Pursuit of Master's Degree Programmes)
  This programme is under "The Scholarship for Teachers (Pursuit of Master's Degree Programmes)" hosted by the Education Bureau. For further information, please visit Education Bureau's website.

• Students who have fulfilled the programme requirements will be conferred the degree upon the approval of the University's Academic Board. • The certification in Chinese Mainland is an independent process from the conferral of academic qualification in Hong Kong by the University. For the avoidance of doubt, no warranties are given in respect of individual graduate's qualification certification or recognition in Chinese Mainland or any other professional qualification or license outside Hong Kong.
• CSCSE  takes a very prudent approach in evaluating each application, including the students' residential period in Hong Kong during the entire study period. When evaluating graduates' credentials, the full border entry and exit records of individual applicants will be examined.
• Students who would pursue credential recognition should be aware that short stays in Hong Kong during the study period may not fulfil the CSCSE residential requirements, leading to possible uncertainty and risks to their credential recognition.
• Students are seriously advised to consider the above when making personal plans, such as accommodation and travel plans from Hong Kong, etc. and make necessary arrangements where appropriate. 
• It is the responsibility of the students to be familiar with and comply with the University regulations and guidelines governing the Taught Postgraduate Programmes.
