Prof Chiu Ming Ming Advises Qatar on Education Policy

2017-11-17

The Qatar Ministry of Education and Higher Education invited Chair Professor of Analytics CHIU Ming Ming (SEC) to analyze their student data and advise them on their education policy.  He showed that family (socio-economic status, parent attitudes, book at home, parent-child activities) influences on student test scores were much stronger (192%) than in Western countries, but teachers showed no effects. Compared to Western students, Qatari students perceived their school staff to be 11% less caring, which yielded lower test scores. As a result, he advised Qatar to increase its early childhood interventions and to improve principal and teacher training.
