Developmental and Educational Psychology

Course (3 credits/ course) Description
Developmental Psychology This course is designed to familiarise students with current knowledge and major theories in developmental psychology.  Through analysis of the relevant literature, and research, students will crucially examine the multiple influences on development, including individual characteristics, family, school and community influences, lifespan developmental issues, and integration of development across all domains. 
Motivation for Learning and Teaching Achievement motivation has long been considered by psychologists and educators as one of the dominant factors that affects student learning and performance. This course is designed to help students embark on an advanced study into the theoretical framework underlying achievement motivation, including behavioral, humanistic and social-cognitive theories.
Advanced Statistics for Educational Assessment The course aimed at strengthening students’ statistical skills in the various areas of educational assessment where statistical methodologies are frequently applied.  Students will develop competence in advanced statistical models and techniques such as factor analysis, analysis of variance, multiple regression, etc.
Developmental Psychology – a specific developmental problem (Pre-requisite: Developmental Psychology) The course is designed to strengthen students’ understanding and skills in applying theoretical knowledge acquired in developmental psychology to a specific developmental problem encountered in the educational setting.
