PSY6047 Advanced Seminar in Applied Psychology

The course is designed to equip students with an understanding of what is meant by applied psychology, of the domains in which psychological knowledge can be applied (e.g., in education and health), and decision rules concerning applied psychology such as the balance between the benefits of an intervention and the actual cost. This course also introduces students to ethical, financial, logistical, and methodological challenges in doing applied psychology and to the educational, cognitive, developmental and social psychological theories underlying applied psychology. Students will have an increased awareness of the psychology-related daily life problems, learn a range of skills required to apply psychological knowledge effectively and achieve a detailed understanding of their chosen focus of application. This course provides insights for those intending to apply for more specialized postgraduate professional courses in psychology and for those intending to pursue a career in which psychological expertise of higher level is expected.
