Magical Retirement @ Elder Academy

2018-01-15

He uses his wizardry to turn sadness into happiness.
He uses his magic to turn apathy into curiosity.
He uses his talent to turn retirement into colourful life.
He is Cheung Wai-kee, Ricky, a retired civil servant who recently joined EdUHK's Elder Academy.

As a magician, Mr Cheung wants to use his magic to bring love and care to the community, especially the elderly.

"It has been an inspirational journey to learn from EdUHK's instructors, Dr Wan Yip Chin Chin and Mr Mok Sai Man, together with classmates specializing in things as varied as Wing Chun, Beijing Opera, Laughter Yoga, Dancing, and Public Speaking." Mr Cheung said.

"Hong Kong is an aging society.  Over 14% of the population is over 65.  It is important to instill positivity in the elderly so that they can live lives to the fullest. To me successful aging is a brand new concept. Unlike normal aging, successful aging refers to the physical, mental and social well-being that we can uphold. Through the Elder Academy's Professional Certificate Programme in Lifelong and Elderly Education, I have developed better skills to convey positive thinking through magical performances. It's gratifying to see the smiles of those who are ill. They learn how to ease their minds and look at illness from a pain-free perspective." Mr Cheung added.

To Mr Cheung, the sense of fulfillment is priceless. He highly recommends this programme to fellows who also want to use their talents to help others.
