English Enhancement: Reading & Writing 

  1. Synopsis 

To help students attain the proficiency levels required on writing and reading LPATE papers by providing specific input on writing coherence and error correction (LPATE Writing) as well as critical reading skills and answering techniques (LPATE Reading). 

 

 

  1. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) 

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 

CILO 1 

 

Acquire knowledge of coherence in writing and terminology related to error correction, and the ability to correct, identify and complete explanations of grammatical errors with appropriate meta-language (LPATE Writing). 

CILO 2 

 

Understand schematic structure and linguistic features in extended writing of different text types (LPATE Writing) 

CILO 3 

 

Understand construction of ideas and meanings portrayed in texts; make inferences of writer’s position (LPATE Reading) 

CILO 4 

 

Decode expressions, lexical items, metaphors and literary devices in the context of texts (LPATE Reading)
