A Staff Development Workshop on “Application of Cooperative Learning in Project-based Learning” was conducted by Miss Jannie TSANG and Miss LEUNG Kit Yan of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) for fifty-four lecturers from nineteen subject disciplines of the Youth College, Vocational Training Council on 4 March 2019. The workshop stressed on both theory and practice of cooperative learning (CL) and project-based learning (PBL) with practical ideas and hands-on activities on designing assessment rubrics, “need-to-know” lists, and question formulation techniques. Some commonly used cooperative strategies were introduced and a case study illustrating how to apply CL in PBL was discussed.
The participants found the experiential learning mode and the examples provided in the workshop useful in helping them understand how to conduct cooperative learning in a more effective manner to facilitate project-based learning in their respective subject disciplines.
