Description

This is an exploratory study to develop a future proposal for a GRF grant bid. Drawing on the PI’s and Co-Is’ previous and current research on education privatisations in their respective countries and territories, this study aims to first ascertain the ideas and structural conditions enabling different types of privatisations in Australia, Greece and Hong Kong. Conceptual work will also be done to develop a heuristic typology of privatisations. Case studies of privatisation of education in each location will highlight the specific nature of these developments in each context, help develop the typology and facilitate cross-case comparisons. The three distinctive contexts will enable consideration of the global and path-dependent elements of these privatisations. The research also aims to explore the impacts of privatisation on schooling, including school curriculum, valued knowledge, teachers and their work and the governance of schools and school systems.
