About the Seminar

Basic education in China is on road from extensive development to intensive development and educational equity in school is becoming higher focus across the country. There are three perspectives from different disciplines: narrative research, measure research and experimental research. Narrative research is based on philosophy, ethics and anthropology and applies dialogue, question, criticize to improve student active thinking, positive explore, and seek the truth. Assessment research pays more attention to the measurability and educational indicators from sociology, and pedagogy. Experimental research focuses on field and laboratory experiment to explore the student’s feeling of equity from the viewpoint of experimental economics and experimental psychology. There are a few useful approaches to deal with educational equity in school, such as university-school partnership, education group, educational community, and school network.

This seminar Prof. Huang shared his thoughts on the following questions:

l Why do we need to pay more attention to educational equity in school?
l How should we understand educational equity in school?
l How do we conduct research of educational equity in school?
l How can we promote educational equity in school?

About Professor Huang Zhongjing

Professor Huang Zhongjing is professor of education and Head of Department of Education at the East China Normal University, China. He is also assistant director of the National Institute of Schooling reform and Development sponsored by Ministry of Education, China. Professor Huang research interests include educational policy, school reform and comparative education. He has published 11 books and more than 90 academic articles.
